5 Laser Hair Removal Myths That Are Stopping You From Booking

We hear the same things every week. People get to the consultation and they're hesitant because they've read something online that's completely wrong. So let's just clear this up once and for all. These laser hair removal myths are costing you clear skin. Here are the five biggest ones we're tired of correcting.

Myth 1: "Laser Hair Removal Is Permanent Forever"

This one's the biggest. No. It's not. And honestly, if someone told you it was, they lied.

Here's what actually happens. Is laser hair removal permanent? Not in the way people think. What it actually does is give you permanent hair reduction. That means the hair that comes back is finer, lighter, and slower growing. Some areas stay permanently clear. Other areas need maintenance every year or two.

Why? Because your body keeps producing new hair from dormant follicles. The laser destroys active hair follicles during your sessions, but it can't kill follicles that aren't active yet. So over time, some hair grows back. It's just not the same as what you started with.

When people search "is laser hair removal permanent," they usually want yes or no. The honest answer is it depends on your skin, your hormones, and the area being treated. Underarms tend to stay clear longer. Bikini line usually needs touch-ups. Face varies.

Stop waiting for perfect permanence. The reality is you'll probably do touch-ups once a year or less, which is still way better than shaving every other day.

Myth 2: "Laser Hair Removal Works on All Hair Colours"

Nope. And this one actually matters.

Laser targets dark pigment in hair. So dark hair works brilliantly. Black, dark brown, even dark red hair responds well. Light blonde, white, or grey hair? The laser can barely see it. Red hair sits somewhere in the middle and usually needs more sessions.

This is why we ask about your hair colour in the consultation. It's not a random question. We're checking if laser hair removal will actually work for you. If you've got very light blonde hair, we'll be honest that you might not see the results you're hoping for.

The technology exists to treat lighter hair, but it takes more sessions and results are slower. Grey or white hair pretty much doesn't work with standard laser.

This doesn't mean you can't do laser hair removal. It just means we need to be realistic about what you'll achieve. We'd rather tell you this before you book than have you disappointed after three sessions.

Myth 3: "One Session and You're Done"

This comes up surprisingly often. People expect laser hair removal to work like a magic wand. One zap and the hair's gone forever.

That's not how hair growth works. Hair grows in phases. Some hairs are in the growth phase when you come in. Others are in a resting phase. The laser only works on hairs that are actively growing. So you need multiple sessions spaced out to catch hairs as they enter the growth phase.

Most people need six to eight sessions. Some need more, some slightly fewer. It depends on your hair density, your skin type, and the area. Underarms and bikini line usually need the full course. Legs sometimes need fewer.

Between sessions you wait four to six weeks. This gives resting hair time to grow back into the growth phase. It's not ideal if you want instant results, but it's how the biology actually works.

People who book thinking one session will fix everything get disappointed. People who understand it takes a few months of regular appointments get genuinely impressed with the results.

Myth 4: "It's Painful"

It's not painless. Let's be honest about that. But it's also not what most people expect.

There's discomfort. It feels like a rubber band snapping against your skin repeatedly. Annoying, not agony. We use numbing cream beforehand so it's more tolerable. Some areas hurt more than others. Your bikini line is more sensitive than your legs. Your underarms are somewhere in the middle.

The worst part is the anticipation. Once you actually feel it, most people think "oh, that's not too bad." It's the worry beforehand that's worse than the actual treatment.

After treatment your skin will be red and maybe slightly swollen. That settles down in a few hours. You might feel sore for a day, like a mild sunburn. That's normal.

People who've had tattoos often laugh at the comparison. "If I can do a tattoo, I can do this." Which is fair.

Myth 5: "Laser Hair Removal Causes Skin Damage"

This one worries people. They think zapping your skin with lasers must damage it.

Medical-grade laser hair removal is safe when done properly. We use technology specifically calibrated for hair removal. It targets the pigment in the hair, not your skin. Your skin handles it fine because we adjust the settings for your skin type.

Side effects are minimal. Redness and slight swelling, which fade quickly. Some people get temporary pigmentation changes, especially if they have darker skin and go out in the sun right after. That's why we tell you to avoid direct sun for a few days after treatment.

Skin damage? No. Not from laser hair removal done by someone who knows what they're doing. We've been doing this for years at Tama Aesthetics.

The real risk is going to someone unqualified who's using equipment wrong. But that's not a laser hair removal problem. That's an unqualified practitioner problem.

So What's Actually True?

These laser hair removal myths are what hold most people back from booking. The reality is simpler and better than the lies you've read online.

Laser hair removal actually works. It genuinely reduces hair growth. Most people end up with 80 to 90 percent less hair in treated areas. You'll do occasional touch-ups, probably yearly or less. It's not painful if you're prepared for mild discomfort. It's safe when done properly.

It's not a magic fix. It's not permanent in the "never shave again" sense. It won't work brilliantly on very light hair. You need multiple sessions.

But if you've been waiting because you believed one of these myths, stop waiting. Book a consultation. We'll tell you exactly what to expect for your specific skin and hair type. No pressure, no lies. Just what's actually going to happen.

That's why we're here.
